Information for High School Student

Chemical engineering is a bridging discipline that brings basic research to fruition. In recent years, it has become an indispensable discipline for the development of a wide range of fields, including life, nanomaterials, environment, energy, and space technology.

By the time you reach the fourth grade

Students study physical chemistry, reaction engineering, biochemical engineering, mass transfer engineering, heat transfer engineering, fluid engineering, and process system. In addition to the specialized subjects of chemical engineering, students study a wide range of other disciplines, including chemistry, mechanical engineering, electrical and electronic engineering, and materials engineering. In the fourth year, students are assigned to a laboratory for their graduation research. They work on research themes such as the development of new materials and their production technologies, including biomaterials, electronic materials, and new catalytic materials; the development of advanced separation technologies; various computer simulations; research related to energy and environmental issues; and the development of artificial organs. The majority of students then go on to graduate school. Most of the students then proceed to graduate school to receive more advanced specialized education. In addition, students with excellent grades can skip a grade to enter the graduate school at the end of the third year. If you have any questions, please contact us by e-mail. You are also welcomed to visit the labs you are interested in. (cheme-inquiry_at_chem-eng.kyushu-u.ac.jp)

Research in department of chemical engineering

In the field of life science, gene engineering, cancer treatment technology and tissue engineering are studied. In the field of environment and energy, a novel synthesis and separation technologies, fuel cells, heat utilization technology, exhaust gas treatment, and technology of chemical plants are studied. In the field of nanomaterials, a wide range of organic and inorganic materials with controlled nanometer size and shape are investigated. In addition to a high level of expertise, students will be able to build a foundation for rational evaluation and design from a global perspective.
